RFK For Secretary Of HHS: The Reformer Heretic At The Gates
RFK has promised/threatened to turn this agency on its head and his nomination has the bureaucracy near-catatonic and packing their "bug-out bags." Doom has descended on D.C.
Introduction
Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy-RFK, and I share a common belief. A deep and abiding suspicion of everything related to the government, and the view that a permanent bureaucratic over-class or, “Deep State,” has grown beyond manageable proportions, truly serves only itself, and actively works to crush all resistance to its power.
Over the last four years we have seen this power focused on one man-Donald Trump. Most notably by way of the Justice Dept. and politically motivated State and local Attorney General’s and District Attorney’s-whom we have come to learn wield enormous power to fuck up your life, when they so choose. And, curiously, upon Trump’s announcement of his intention to run for office again, turned a fire hose of what has come to be known as “lawfare,” on Trump with the intention of tying him up in court to where he couldn’t campaign, bankrupting, and ultimately imprisoning him.
Thanks to his enormous, but not limitless wealth, Trump has been able to fend off these attacks for the most part, as case after case has unraveled. But, if there was any doubt in his mind-there wasn’t, the last couple of years have firmed up Trump’s resolve on one thing in particular-
For the American experiment to continue along the lines of those laid out by the Founder’s some 250 years ago, this bureaucracy must be reined in, broken apart, slimmed down, and reorganized.
With the mandate handed to him by an electorate that has accepted at least the bulk of his arguments, Trump has set out to not just “Drain the Swamp,” as he promised eight years ago, but literally blow it to smithereens. The nomination of RFK as Secretary of Health and Human Services-HHS, is the latest installment on this commitment. And, predictably, the Deep State Democrats and Liberal elitists have come unglued at his nomination.
It is not the point of this post to do a point by point analysis of RFK’s contention that there is an unholy alliance between Big Food, Big Pharma, and the regulatory arms of the FDA, CDC, and the eleven other agencies housed within HHS, that control a $1.7 trillion dollar budget. Follow this link if you’d like more detail here.
What I will offer for your consideration are some stats and references.
In Medicare/Medicaid’s first year in 1965 its budget was $10 bn. There were 194 mm people in the country then. That works out to $48.00 per person. Today the HHS budget is $1.7 Trn and the U.S pop is ~330 mm. Or $5,105 per person, or roughly 100X per capita. Something’s out of whack here.
The obesity rate in 1965 for adults was 13%. Today 73% of adults are overweight or obese. The rate of childhood obesity in the early 60’s was 4.4%. Today its 25%.
Beach scene in 1970-find the fat people.
Inflammatory diseases are running rampant in the American population. Colorectal cancer, traditional a disease of the elderly, is on the rise in adults below 55. Diabetes rate pre 1970 was about 1.6% of the population. Today the CDC tells us that the rate is now 10.6%. In 1980 only a small fraction of the population had Chronic kidney disease. Today 1 in 7 adults have Chronic kidney disease, and there are 7,578 dialysis centers and 226 transplant centers to help them stay alive. Chronic liver disease, termed Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease-NAFLD has exploded, certainly as measured by the number of publications on it. Estimates are that 25% of Americans have NAFLD, and or Insulin Resistance-IR.
Foods have changed as well. In fact one of RFK’s core contentions is that our diet is killing us. Prior to the 1960’s animal fats-lard, beef tallow, bacon grease were used in frying and incorporation into baked goods. Vegetable and other seed oils gained ascendancy in the 1970’s as manufacturers learned the process of partial hydrogenation, allowing them to be solid at room temperature.
There are strong links to the use of seed oils and inflammatory disease, according to Dr. Robert Lufkin M.D., Training Physician at UCLA Medical School, and the author of the NY Times best seller, Lies I Taught in Medical School
Use of High Fructose Corn Syrup-HFCS as a sweetener also gained popularity as an alternate to sugar. There are substantial differences in the molecular structure of Fructose and Sugar, and in the way the body metabolizes them. Lufkin is also a crusader against ingesting these substances.
One other reference I will provide is the best book I’ve read on how the food/pharma industry colluded with government to make us sicker.
Summary
We are spending more money than ever on health and getting sicker. The food industry pushes products containing seed oils and HFCS’s on us relentlessly. The pharma industry saturates the air waves with relentless ads on GLP-1’s to treat the symptoms of food-induced sickness.
Whole industries have sprung up to funnel these drugs to us. Ro.Co’s weight loss landing page.
Why? Once you start, you will never stop. Eli Lilly manufactures Zepbound and Mounjaro, and now boasts a $700 bn market cap.
When I was diagnosed with NAFLD couple of years ago the first thing my primary care doctor offered was a prescription for Ozempic. I went another route and found success which I will discuss in a future post.
Bottom line-Is it any wonder RFK thinks HHS needs a Buford Pusser-style shake up? I agree. I hope he is confirmed and swings a big stick, just like Pusser did.
Cheers, Dave
